What we believe

We believe the local Church is part of a larger body that includes all churches around the world that teach the truths revealed in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The local Church is placed in the community by God to bring glory and honor to the Lord Jesus Christ. We know the Lord Jesus Christ has instructed us to bring Him glory and honor by loving people with His perfect love. To do so, He told us that “all people will know that we are His followers when we love one another.” Then He said: “Love one another as I have loved you (John 14:34-35 para).” At First Baptist Church of Boardman, we believe this is what we are to attempt to do on an ongoing basis. We also believe the Church must stay faithful to other Biblical guidelines. In that regard, we also support the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention.

We believe our mission is to tell the Good News about Jesus, to teach the truths from God’s Word, and to help Christ’s followers live in a way that will bring Him glory and honor!

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and is free from error in its original writing being the infallible rule for life both individually and corporately with its commands being the final authority in all matters.

The Bible tells us that “God so loved the world that he gave His one & only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish (die) but would have eternal life (John 3:16).” In order to receive the gift of eternal life we need to believe that Jesus is God’s Son. We must trust Him as we accept His offer of forgiveness of our sins (the wrong things we have done) and receive God’s free gift. So we pray something like this: Jesus, I know I am a sinner. Please forgive me of my sins.I believe You are the Son of God and I want to receive Your gift of forgiveness and eternal life by yielding myself to you. Please come into my heart as both my Savior and Lord so that I can live for you here and live with you forever in Heaven. Thank You Jesus for saving Me.

We believe that there is One Glorious Creator God in Three Persons, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. God created all things here as well as the entire universe We believe God’s Word, the Bible, teaches us that the Son of God, Jesus Christ provides the only way to eternal life for those who would believe in Him, receive Him into their lives and follow Him. We also believe that this same Jesus is coming again to take all His followers into heaven where they will share in His glory. The Bible also tells us God has sent His Holy Spirit to empower the lives of all those who accept His gift of eternal life.

We believe God in Three Persons created a perfect world that was good and without sin. But the Bible tells us that because sin came into the world all of us were separated from our Creator God due to the reality that a Perfect Sinless God could not fellowship with any who were sinful. To rectify our hopeless situation, God sent His Son Jesus into the world to make a provision to reconcile people like you and me back into fellowship with Him. We do this by putting our faith, hope and belief in Him as the only sinless Son of God and by receiving Him inot our lives as our Savior. In doing that, at that same time we invite Jesus, One who forgives us from our sins, to take full charge of our lives.

We believe that God wants people to be saved from sin and its penalty. The Bible tells us that “God was not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9b).” God’s goal to buy back those who were created in His image but were defiled by sin is the message of the entire Bible. We believe as followers of Jesus Christ, we have the privilege of sharing this Good News of God’s redemptive plan of hope and His gift of eternal life with everyone we possibly can. The Bible tells us that “God demonstrated His love for us in this way; while we were yet sinners Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). “Seeing folks find the peace, joy and hope through a relationship with Jesus is God’s goal is our goal at First Baptist Church of Boardman.

We believe that training up people both young and old to be true followers of Jesus Christ is another God-given privilege we have in the local Church. Discipleship programs such as AWANA Kid’s Club for children, our “14:6” Youth Ministry for teens, our Women & Men’s Bible Studies, and other classes offer special times of training for all ages these are important in regard to helping folks grow and mature in their faith. Those special times of training and mentoring are an important part of our ministry here!
